An RSPB information centre is situated on the reserve. Many wading and farmland birds nest on the flower rich machair (grassland) including corn buntings and corncrakes.
Park by the information centre just outside the village of Houghgarry. There are various paths and trails around the reserve. Good walking footware Is advisable.
Photography Tip
Photography of the beaches is usually best late in the day as the sun sets over the Atlantic ocean. Traigh Iar is the most popular for seacapes looking to the south east towards the South Uist hills in the evening light.
