About

The tower was erected in 1830 by Dr Alexander Macleod, who was the factor of the North Uist Estate. It was to provide employment for the purpose of famine relief. It is built over a Iron Age dun on a small islaet in Loch Scolpaig.
The ground round the edge of the loch can be very very boggy, especially after a period of wet weather.

Photographers Tip

Photographs taken early in the day from the lochside to the east of the tower in spring and autumn produce the best results. In good weather St Kilda can usually been seen out to the west.
