Crafted using different wool felting methods and other materials, I make original items and scenes inspired by the local area. Come and learn about the process in a relaxed setting. Gifts, prints, cards and originals for all who wish them. Sketching anything of interest from the age of ten and much later dipping a toe into watercolour, a chance encounter with a Herdwick sheep in the Lake District led to an introduction into the wonderful world of all things woolly.
Following a few forays into needle felting, it was a revelation to discover wet felting, specifically applied to compositions as varied as those using any other media.
From gusty gales to simmering sunsets every hue and cry from the lapwings provides the backdrop to a variety of evolving scenes and items as diverse as coasters and cat pods. I construct the basic layout of a scene or item prior to wet felting, then add needle felted additions and finally free motion and hand embroidery. It can be a lengthy process and I never quite know how it will progress until it’s finally finished which is what I enjoy most about it.
Visitors to my home studio in Knockquien are warmly welcomed and invited to learn more. There is parking behind the house. Prints, cards and gifts are available there and also at Shoreline Stoneware in Locheport.
