About

Bùth Bharraigh (Est. Oct 2013) has grown out of the monthly producer markets that we used to have on Barra and Vatersay. The markets were so successful that people wanted more convenient access to local produce throughout the whole year not just through the monthly markets. Bùth Bharraigh is a marketplace for local crofters and producers selling both food and craft products. It is open all year round for the convenience of islanders and visitors. It also sells products that the community want but could not get on the island including wholefoods, books and wool and craft supplies. The shop is run by volunteers and also employs two members of staff. In a few years Bùth Bharraigh has grown rapidly into the community hub it is today. It is an excellent place for visitors to spend time buying gifts and groceries, logging on to the free WiFi, using the laundrette, learn a new craft or get help with a current one, finding out about how to prepare local produce and other local information. Bùth Bharraigh is a social enterprise which means that its profits are reinvested into the shop and other linked community projects.

Pop in and support the locals. Like so many outlets in the Outer Hebrides it is full of eclectic items. Browse, you are bound to see something to buy either for yourself or someone back home. Read full review
