Island Darkroom is a black and white photographic gallery and studio in the heart of the Isle of Lewis - with an entirely handmade selection of prints, as well as tweed and cyanotype textiles, coffee and bespoke workshops. The darkroom is based in the village of Achmore and looks out over the undulating loch-pitted peat moors to the Harris hills. The work created here explores the best of what the island has to offer, from the broad brushstrokes of its landscapes to the intimate details within them.
From black and white silver gelatin prints to Harris Tweed smocks and cyanotype textiles, there’s loads to stop for and peruse with a coffee for a wee while.
Situated 20 miles from Tarbert and 7 miles from the Callanish Stones - and sharing a croft with Hebridean Bothy Pods - its perfectly placed for a wee pick-me-up coffee and rest on your way north after a cycle over the Clisham!
All products sold here can be posted on, so no need to worry about over-packing those panniers.
