About

Welcome to the Otter hide. Situated in the small crofting community of Maraig, in North Harris, the Otter hide is a well-proportioned, luxury cabin for two guests that offers visitors modern convenience in a spectacular, lochside setting.

Sipping a cup of tea or a Harris gin in the covered entranceway or gazing from the cabin windows across Loch Seaforth, one of the deepest and most impressive sea lochs in Scotland, you will soon see why Maraig is dubbed ``the valley of rainbows and ribbons”. In the right light, ribbons of water cascade down the sides of the glen, and rainbows stretch across the loch.

A tranquil but well connected location. The Otter hide provides a comfortable and relaxing retreat from which to explore the breath-taking scenery of Harris and Lewis. Nestled beneath the Clisham, the highest mountain (Corbett) in the outer Hebrides, the Otter hide is a perfect base for walking, cycling, kayaking, paddle boarding , wild swimming and snorkelling.

A short but stunning single-track road connects the tranquil village of Maraig to the main A859 Tarbert to Stornoway road. This means the renowned white sand beaches of south and west Harris, the scenic and cultural highlights of Lewis, and the island capital of Stornoway are all but a short drive away.

Walking from Maraig is a dream for any adventurer of reasonable competence, Todun is just a short distance from the Otter hide and if you like a little more from your walking then the Clisham is a must. The Hebridean Way also passes the doorstep.

If you love to do wild swimming, kayaking or paddle boarding then you will also find that little loch Maraig is very safe and is a part of the Harris snorkel trail. then a short hop across to Rhenigidale for more of the same from the beach.

A must for year round adventure.
