Fàilte gu Innse Gall - Welcome to the Outer Hebrides
The Outer Hebrides, or the Western Isles, are an interconnected chain of Atlantic islands located around 40 miles off the northwest coast of Scotland. The archipelago stretches for around 130 miles from the Butt of Lewis in the north to Barra Head in the south with 12 inhabited islands and numerous uninhabited islands.
You’ll be immersed in the stunning scenery, wildlife and heritage unique to this ancient archipelago, and also discover a culture very different to mainland Scotland. Or anywhere else for that matter.
Islanders have a warm and welcoming integrity. Gaelic is often the first language spoken and there remains a sense of tradition deeply embedded in the islands.
To make the most of your time on the island, we’ve taken care of your information needs. Whether it’s planning a day trip, visiting an attraction, booking an activity, or simply some practical visitor advice.
