The best places to see Puffins in the Western Isles are on the offshore islands of St Kilda, The Shiants, Flannan Isles, Sula Sgier, Rona and Mingulay.
A trip to the Dual World Heritage Site that is St Kilda, will not disappont. With Outer Hebrides seabirds including Guillemot, Razorbill, Kittiwake, Fulmar, Manx Shearwaters and Petrels are just some of the bird species that breed on St Kilda and off course the puffin.
Weather and conditions permitting, Western Isles birdwatching enthusiasts can choose from scheduled and charter boat trips to the Flannan Isles, Sula Sgeir and Rona - all located of the north and west coasts of Lewis and all good places to see Outer Hebrides puffins and seabird colonies.
Alternatively a boat trip for birdwatching on the Shiant Isles. Breeding Scottish island seabird colonies can also be seen on sea tours to Mingulay and Barra Head to the south of Barra.
