Sleeping under the stars in your tent in the Outer Hebrides are what dreams are made of.
We have lots of useful information visitors camping in the Outer Hebrides, including a map of campsites and facilities.
Whilst we would always encourage you to use campsites for all or most of your trip, we realise that you may need to wild camp at times - especially whilst traversing the Hebridean Way where there are parts where there is not much accommodation provision. Just to be clear when we talk of wild camping we dont mean camping next to your car, (this is not wild camping!) we mean pitching up way off the beaten track and away from communities.
Help us keep our islands special by:
- Plan ahead. Book your transport. Book your pitches (where possible). Do not just “turn up” expecting a space
- Camp responsibly and stay in organized campsites. If you must camp outside of the sites, keep on the move and only remain in a single place for a single night. Don’t camp next to your car, or in view of houses or beside the road
- Leave no trace. Take everything out that you take in including ALL your litter. Remove any trace of your campsite including the fire.
- Do not pollute waterways. Bring a trowel and bury solid toilet waste at least 30m from a waterway
- Follow the Pride of P.L.A.C.E. visitor code
- Follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
Sweet dreams!
