About

We're literally on a tidal beach with plenty of opportunities for swimming. There are hills to contemplate or climb, lochs and moorland to explore, all on the doorstep of The Wheelhouse. Birds abound, all shapes and sizes. The original Wheelhouse is 10 minutes away over the moors, a fascinating structure, dating from the early Iron Age.

The cabin comprises comfortable and calm accommodation, designed and built to our own specification, offering our guests a self-contained, light and airy open-plan space, with full height windows and doors that look onto the surrounding land and sea.

Inside…

·      king-size bed and futon sofa bed

 ·     shower room, with complimentary Ishga toiletries

·      all bed linen, towels etc., including beach towels

·      kitchen area, full size oven

·      fridge/ice box

·      ceramic hob (2 rings)

·      kettle/toaster/microwave

·      welcome pack (food/drink)

·      information on what to do/see

·      TV/ultra fast wifi/USB A&C charging points

·      panel heater

·      parking  beside cabin..

You can be as busy or as relaxed as you want to be here – as Grimsay is more or less in the middle between Berneray/North Uist and Benbecula/South Uist/Eriskay you can visit the attractions of each unique island over the causeways linking us all.

If you’d like some ideas about where to visit please ask us.  A wander over to the ‘original’ wheelhouse across the moor in front of the cabin, gin tasting at the award-wining North Uist distillery, a boat cruise from Grimsay or Eriskay, or walk on a practically deserted beach – the west side of the island chain known as the Uists is almost one long beach.

We’ll be delighted to help you practise your Gaelic and to assist you in any way to make your stay in the Outer Hebrides the best it can be, whether you are looking for a comfortable night or two whilst exploring the Hebridean Way on bike or foot - or if you would like to really explore the Uists, from a central base over a week.

The Wheelhouse is a secure, calm and situated in a wonderful place, so come and see us, we’d be delighted to welcome you to The Wheelhouse!
