Did you know that Gaelic is the first language of the Outer Hebrides? In fact, today our islands are the main stronghold of this lyrical language in Scotland. When you’re here, you’ll hear Gaelic spoken freely in shops, at the bus stop and in the street.
But, it’s more than a language; it’s our heritage, rooted in the soil, the people and our past. Without Gaelic, the islands wouldn’t be what they are today.
By learning a little more about our Gaelic language, culture and traditions, you’ll have a deeper understanding of life on our beautiful islands.
Watch the videos below and follow Calum Maclean as he tours around our islands, meeting locals and finding out more about the unique Gaelic language and culture here in the Outer Hebrides.
