EASTER 2023
Outer Hebrides Tourism have raised our deep concern at the impact the current unacceptable ferry situation will have on the Uist visitor economy with a range of stakeholders including the Comhairle, HIE, Scottish Tourism Alliance, MSP, Scottish Government and of course CalMac.
By working closely with our partners on the Western Isles Ferries Group we are making the case not only for improved ferry services but also for a meaningful support mechanism to safeguard businesses negatively impacted by unacceptably poor ferry services in recent years.
JUNE 2023
We have written twice to Ministers and Transport Scotland, regularly attended Ferry interest meetings with the Comhairle, MSP and other stakeholders, highlighted the plight of the sector to the Scottish Tourism Alliance and Visit Scotland as well as feeding back your accounts of business impact to Government. OHT fully support the plea to CalMac to revisit their approach to how services are prioritised when the network faces disruption, in the hope that they will recognise that the current matrix is unjustifiably unfair to certain routes.
We also regularly speak to the media on the impact ferry disruption continues to have on the islands and on tourism in particular, always in the context of what a fantastic destination we have and how much we want to welcome visitors here to share it with us.
We would encourage any member affected by ferry cancellations and disruption to email us with a note of how your business has been impacted and any feedback you are receiving from customers, this will allow us to strengthen our lobbying and campaigning on this issue: enquiries@outerhebridestourism.org
