Peter May's "Blackhouse" trilogy of novels about the Outer Hebrides caught the imagination of readers around the world. The exceptional interest has resulted in three further books about the islands appearing in bookshops on topics ranging from the Clearances to the Harris Tweed industry. Unsurprisingly, fans of the books have been keen to visit the home of Fin Macleod and the other characters.
In response to the interest in the books, Outer Hebrides Tourism added a Peter May Trail to its existing range of routes through the islands. Trails are an important mechansim for us to extend visitors' stay in the islands and to distribute the benefits of tourism throughout the islands.
The Peter May self-guided route is typical, supported by a physical leaflet and online presence linking 17 locations across the islands from the Ness village of Adabroc to Charlie's beach in Eriskay.
