This crossing takes approximately 1 hour 40 minutes, running 7 days a week. There is 1 crossing a day, there and back, sometimes 2 depending on the day of the week. If you are not such a good sailor, this is a shorter route accross the sea to both Harris and Lewis.
You can travel from Tarbert through the chain of islands and cross to the mainland using Caledonian Macbrayne Hopscotch tickets, which give you various options.
The ferry terminal is within walking distance to the village and the bus stop.
If you are taking a car, you are advised to book early as the ferry can be very busy, particularly in the summer season. The drive from Inverness to Uig takes apporximately 3 hours and approximately 5/6 hours from Glasgow/Edinburgh. You are requires to be at the ferry terimnal at least 45 minutes prior to departure.
It is also advisable to check the ferry service status, as ferries can be delayed or cancelled due to adverse weather.
UIG HARBOUR CLOSURE
Please note, Uig Harbour in Skye will close for planned upgrade works from 16 January - 13 March 2023 and 30 October - 11 December 2023. This will affect Tarbert (Harris) and Lochmaddy (North Uist) ferry services and alternative options are detailed here.
