Occasionally visitors may need to access medical facilities in the Outer Hebrides during their stay on our islands.

If you feel you may need medical treatment on Barra and Vatersay, South and North Uist, Benbecula, Berneray, Eriskay, Grimsay, Harris or Lewis you can contact doctors’ surgeries on these Scottish Islands directly. Alternatively you can make use of the NHS 24 service which may be able to provide medical advice and information on health services in the Outer Hebrides for visitors over the telephone or online.
Western Isles doctors, health centres and dental clinics can see visitors to the islands on an emergency treatment or temporary patient basis – please contact your nearest medical centre, surgery or dental practice for details of how to access these medical services in the Outer Hebrides.
In the event that travellers need to access prescription medications doctors will be able to advise patients on how and where to fill prescriptions in the Western Isles as there are few dispensing chemists and pharmacies in the Outer Hebrides.
In the event of an accident or medical emergency patients may be treated at one of the hospitals in the Outer Hebrides, or could be transferred to the mainland for treatment.
If your pet gets ill or has an accident, there are Vetinary surgeries in Stornoway, Lewis and Liniclate, Benbecula.
