About

This huge inland loch has narrow entrances controlled by tidal valves to the sea on both sides of the island. The causeway which crosses the centre of the loch was upgraded to double track in 1990
Including a number of small islands on the north side of the loch greatly improves the composition of the photograph.
Early in the day with the light from the east is possibly the most favourable time for photography.

Photographers Tip

Most photographs are taken from the north end of the causeway across the eastern part of the loch using the South Uist mountains of Hecla and Beinn Mhor as a backdrop.
