Scalpay (Sgalpaigh) is a rocky island with a thriving community based historically upon fishing. Recently a new marina has been installed by the North Harbour.
FACILITIES AND ACTIVITES ON SCALPAY
The community cafe and shop are convenient for visitors sailing in the Western Isles as they are close to the North Harbour pier. Crews mooring on Scalpay will find that there is a good range of facilities at the fishing pier.
There is a walk to the lighthouse that looks out over the Minch and towards the Shiants.
ABOUT SCALPAY
The island was recently gifted to the community by its owner Fred Taylor, a London restauranteur - following the land transfer the community voted to become part of the North Harris Trust.
To find out more about this little community there is a collection of poetry in the council archives (in English and in Gaelic) with news cuttings and writings dating 1963-2009 written by the Bard of Scalpay, Donald Morrison
