LOCH CLAIDH AND LOCH BHROLLUM
These sea lochs on the east coast of Lewis offer wild anchorage opportunities for crews sailing in the Western Isles.
It is worth noting that since these wild anchorages are midway between the two main Lewis and Harris centres of Stornoway and Tarbert – so you will need to stock up with fuel and food before you get here.
WILD ANCHORAGE AT LOCH CLAIDH
About two miles east of Loch Seaforth, the entrance to Loch Claidh is about half a mile wide and it is three miles long. There are several wild anchorages including Eilean Thinngarstaigh (Hingerstay), Tob Smuaisibhig and Goban Rainich.
Loch Claidh is in one of the few remaining areas in the UK classified as wild so there are no services close by. There is no road access to the loch; it is a sail in sail out destination
WILD ANCHORAGE AT LOCH BHROLLUM
Loch Bhrollum is more difficult for those sailing in the Outer Hebrides to identify and enter than Loch Claidh which lies 2 miles to the west.
It is a useful stopping off spot on the way to the Shiants. There are two wild anchorages, one at Tob Bhrollum and the other at the head of the loch.
