Loch Seaforth (Siophort) forms the boundary between Harris and Lewis reaching nine miles northwards into a particularly mountainous and isolated part of the Western Isles, and offering wild anchorage for those sailing in the Outer Hebrides.
Exposed to southerlies and strong squalls from unexpected directions, winds accelerate off the steep surrounding mountains.
Seaforth Island is a large islet towards the upper end of the loch.
Loch Seaforth Wildlife
White tailed sea eagles and golden eagles have made this area their home and can be regularly viewed from the boat as they patrol the air high above the cliffs.
Basking sharks, porpoises, dolphins, seals, otters, puffins, gannets and skuas are also frequently seen here by those enjoying Outer Hebrides sailing holidays. Pollock and mackerel are plentiful in the summer months.
