About

A narrow, single track road winds steeply up towards Bosta and down to reveal stunning views out the islands of Old Hill, with the beach itself being reached by a short walk down a path.

Bosta Beach is modest in size but the beautiful views, green meadow littered with wildflowers in the summer, white sand and clear blue waters, and roaming Highland cattle make it a very special place; so much so that many a person has listed Bosta Beach as one of their favourite beaches on Lewis!

The beach can be a hive of activity in the summer months and has a lovely family atmosphere. It is also a favourite dog-walking area for many (the area surrounding the beach is Common Grazing so please keep dogs on a lead). Bosta is also home to an old, stone walled cemetery which is...Read More

Bosta is also home to an old, stone walled cemetery which is still in use. This is a popular beach for families, swimmers and kayakers, but be warned the waters can be chilly! : )

Also located at Bosta beach is the historic replica Iron Age house which is open to the public and mounted on the far skerry is the Time and Tide Bell is a creative installation and one of several placed around the British coastline. The unique bell design by artist, Marcus Vergette is played by the movement of the waves and tides, creating a constantly varying musical pattern. It also serves as a long-term marker of rising sea levels.

There are rocky outcrops and a spectacular view out into the Atlantic with a number of small islands to provide plenty of material for good photographs early or late in the day throughout the year.

Note: Due the narrow nature of the road and steep blind bends and hills, camper van drivers should be aware of potential difficulties in reversing to oncoming traffic.
