Whichever of the Outer Hebrides islands you are visiting from Lewis and Harris, to North and South Uist and Benbecula or Barra and Vatersay, you may wish to familiarise yourself with the provision of facilities in the Western Isles.
During your holiday you may need to access Outer Hebrides facilities such as banks or cash machines, petrol stations (gas stations) and garages, public toilets or portable toilet disposal, showers and doctors or other medical services.
Each of the main islands in the Outer Hebrides offers access to most of the above facilities and services, while provision of police in the Western Isles consists of a main police station in Stornoway on Lewis and smaller police stations on the Uists and Barra.
We are one of the worlds safest destinations, but always remember that there is a strong network of support on hand should you require assistance. Download our useful safety booklet and keep this booklet handy – it may well prove to be your most trusted travel companion!
Be aware of Ticks. Infected ticks can cause Lymes disease so it is important that you check for ticks following a trip outdoors. Further advice can be found here.
