Based in the scenic Outer Hebrides of Scotland, Stag Bakeries is a family-run craft bakery with a heritage dating back to 1885. The Macdonald family has owned the company for over 30 years and their core values remain at the heart of the business.
Traditional recipes passed down the generations, time-honoured methods and a commitment to using only the finest ingredients are still key to each product that the bakery sends out from its premises in Stornoway. The result is an award-winning product range with trusted provenance. Locally, Stag supplies its loyal customers in Lewis, Harris and North and South Uist with a wide range of fresh bakery goods including bread, rolls, biscuits, confectionary, savouries and more, as well as running a mobile shop service to supply rural customers with bakery goods and groceries.
The company is probably best known in the Outer Hebrides for its Plain Loaf, named Best Bread in Scotland in 2019 and one of the few remaining loaves in Scotland made to the old-fashioned recipe.
Supplying customers close to home remains the lifeblood of the business. Stag also supplies bakery goods to the UK mainland and beyond with Stag’s signature Seaweed biscuit range proving very popular away from home. Launched in 2013 and taking inspiration from the bakery’s island location, the Seaweed range comes in three varieties: Water Biscuit, Oatcake, and Shortbread. Made using a blend of three seaweeds, the Seaweed range is sure to invigorate the taste buds and offers a truly unique option for snacking. The Seaweed Water Biscuits were named Best Scottish Speciality Product in 2013 by the Guild of Fine Food.
