Caisteal a' Mhorair

Caisteal a’Mhorair Sea Stack, Traigh Ghearadha, or Garry Beach as it is often called, is just south of the Bridge to Nowhere.

Once you get down to this beach, you will see the magnificent sea stacs rising from the sand at the southeast end of the beach. The caves and tunnels make it a perfect spot to take a photo - especially at sunrise and sunset or indeed on a clear dark night.

The tallest and most substantial of the three stacs rising from the sands and is called Caisteal a’Mhorair (the Castle of the Nobleman). It is called this as the remains of a possible medieval castle sit on top of this stac.

It is thought that one of the Castle structures may have been a small tower, whilst another may have been a small hall or enclosed courtyard. It is thought that it was semi-permanently occupied, with evidence of fireplaces and debris such as pottery, bones and pounding stones found.  

Whatever the use, it certainly made for a great lookout point to safeguard against a threat along the coast, as the stack is around 23 metres high.

Traigh Ghearadha is accessed easily. There is plenty parking and also picnic benches.
