The Great Yellow Bumblebee has a long tongue and therefore they can reach the nectar deep in the flower head.

Areas of Red Clover and Common Knapweed appear to be a particularly important food plants.

When walking through machair areas please stay on the routes marked and within marked boundaries. Do not disturb foraging insects and avoid interfering with their nesting sites
