About

Our beaches in the Outer Hebrides can have a tropical vibe with the white sand and turquoise sea but the wind chill, maybe not so much! The Thai Tourist Board mistakenly used an image of one of our beaches to promote a beach in Thailand! The beach was stunning West Beach in Berneray, but the spectacular beach Traigh Chuil or Coll beach, wouldn’t look out of place in Thailand!

Traigh Chuil is another incredible beach on the northeast coast of Lewis and located just a few miles north of Stornoway on a sheltered stretch of Loch a Tuath or Broad Bay. The beach is a long sandy crescent backed by gently sloping sand dunes. If you are travelling north from Stornoway, you will come over the hill just after Upper Coll and you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of this spectacular beach.

Like many of our beaches, they are quiet and perfect for walking and watching the sunrise over the mainland hills.

The beach is easily accessed with ample parking.
