About

Scarasta beach looks out into the open Atlantic Ocean. There is a wide expanse of sand and dunes between the main road and the beach. Ceapabhal rising to 339 metres is situated at the south west end of the mile long beach with superb views of St Kilda on a clear day from summit.

A short climb up the lower slopes of Maodal provides a extensive panoramic view of the beach and is another good point for photography early in the day.
Alongside Traigh Scarasta is Harris Golf Course one of the most dramatic locations and scenic locations for a golf course in the world.

Photographers Tip

Stunning photographs can be taken using the north Harris mountains as a background or in the other direction towards Capabhal. With the beach open to the Atlantic there is usually good surf crashing onto the beach and including this improves the composition of any images .The late evening sun from the north west in summer provides perfect lighting
