About

Struan Cottage in Malaclate, Sollas lies 10 miles from Lochmaddy on the 35 mile circular road which has short branches off to townships such as Locheport and Otternish (causeway to Berneray and ferry to Leverburgh in Harris). The cottage sits 50 yards from the roadside on the bay at Vallay Strand with picturesque views to the now uninhabited island of Vallay. The cottage features on the covers of many books and also on tea towels, fridge magnets etc.

The cottage was built in the 19th century and has been modernised to combine all the benefits of modern amenities with the original appearance of a traditional, thatched cottar's whitehouse. Cottage is small, living room/kitchen in one end and bedroom in other end of cottage with bathroom with shower in-between. There is a double bed in the bedroom. There are 2 sleeping lofts both reached by vertical ladders (approximately 7ft), above the bedroom the sleeping loft has a double mattress. Above the living room the sleeping loft has 2 single beds. However the number of guests is limited to 4.

We have built a summer house which looks out on to the bay where one can watch the birds on the shore and occasionally spot an otter or even a seal.

Lettings are from Saturday 4p.m. to Saturday 10a.m. unless specifically mentioned. Tenants are required to provide their own linen, tea towels and towels.
